Monthly Music Playlist:

Greetings from the kingdom dear readers! Today I bring to you nothing but good news. Being away from you has left me truly bereft, so of course I brought my gifts with me duh?

Yes, guys, I couldn’t leave us hanging for too long. So I’ve brought gifts of a new edition in our usual space, where we recommend a playlist of songs each month inspired by a spicy theme. Awesome? Like I’m capable of anything else.

If you haven’t guessed right from all the excitement, It is I, and let me welcome you back to our Monthly Music playlists.

If you're new here, sit tight, you’ll love it here!

WHAT’S OUR THEME ?!:

Guys, I must admit finding a theme is not an easy thing o. It’s no piece of cake.

It is lots and lots of hard work with deep introspection. The struggle was real, as I thought lonnnngg and hard about what could be our theme for this month.

I kept asking myself, “What is special about September?”. I did my little research y’know asked the internet and all, but all the answers I got were just so...unfulfilling and I can’t afford to give you guys something ordinary.

But what I finally realized was that I was simply looking in the wrong direction.

I was lost…Until I remembered who rules September! And from there like this everything started to piece itself together!

Drumroll pleasee

And let’s get reaaady

Because… (increase the heat of the drums here o)

It’ssssss Virgo season babyyyyyyy

That’s right. In September, Virgos totally run the world. Yes, we know some Libra’s come in late September yappa yappa, let us wait our turn, shall we? You’ll get your own glory time.

Just Kidding just kidding. Imagine one month, containing such cool and strong people. Life is truly unfair.

Now if you’re someone who’s clueless about star signs and the energy their carriers possess; I mean who am I to judge? (No seriously I’m exactly like you so I’m no one to judge), we’re gonna do a little rundown and try as much as possible to capture that Virgo essence.

ALL ABOUT THE VIRGOS:

‘Virgo’, is an earth sign that’s represented by the goddess of wheat and agriculture. They are known for their logical and systematic approach to life. Perfectionism, meticulousness, and constant improvement are their watchword. They are always so organized and are often great problem solvers. Hardworking to the bone, resourceful, committed, intellectual, and analytical. See all these adjectives? Strong people ride on the coattails of this star sign.

Besides all that serious stuff, Virgos are super kind, gentle, and supportive friends. So for today’s edition, inspired by Virgos, our song selection will be derived from different beautiful songs of star musicians with this lovely star sign.

Beyonce:

When they say Virgos are practical and meticulous, you have a hard time doubting that when the Queen Bee is around. If there’s anything to note about Beyonce, minus her obvious legendary-level talent, it's her utter dedication to her art. Beyonce is a powerhouse that never stops grinding hard. She grinds every day like an upcoming artist trying to get that bag and bread up. If you’ve seen any of her performances, then you can’t miss her strength and meticulous attention to detail. From sound to lights, to choreography, synchronization in movements, to makeup and outfits, Bey always makes sure everything is up to par and if you doubt me, I have just two words for you; Homecoming performance

She is an iconic presence all-round who puts in the work every step of the way and this expectation of precision extends to everyone around her. Bey is well known for working everyone hard to be the best versions of themselves, putting them up to a standard of no slacking or slouching. It’s no wonder Blue Ivy experienced massive improvement and growth during her tour performances. The professionalism of her mother was working through her.

Beyonce is all about growth and in celebration of her class act, the song recommendation for this Virgo queen is;  “Cuff It”. I chose “Cuff It” specifically because no matter who you are, where you’re from, what clothes you like, What shoes you wear, What music you like, ‘Cuff It’ for me is the one song guaranteed to put you in a good mood. It is such a feel-good anthem. For dancing alone and feeling the rhythms through your bones, air flush on your face all the happiness in the world wrapping you in a cloak or maybe it’s dancing in a circle with your friends, cooking in the kitchen, baking. ‘Cuff It’ is so unapologetic-ally ‘that girl’.

Michael Jackson (MJ):

Everybody loves MJ, truly. Everybody does and if you don’t who are you really? I remember the day MJ died, It was a school day. The sky was religiously blue and the whole neighborhood was gloomy, you’d think he died in our street at the rate at which everybody was outside. When I got to school that day, during our lunch break most channels kept showing MJ so we watched MJ for an hour or more. If you were not an MJ fan before then, that day you’d have had no choice because we were all baptized.

MJ was a king of high-quality work. The drastic measures he took to throw a good show were god-tier level. Climbing insanely high platforms, getting his hair burnt off (albeit by accident, but he took it in stride and did it for the culture).  No MJ wasn’t the ‘king of pop’ for no small reason. Fans used to faint and lose all composure at this guy’s artistry. Other than his music, he was known for his caring, thoughtful nature towards anyone and everyone around him. When the world showed him hatred, he always responded calmly with kindness

Our MJ song of today is “Human Nature”. Human Nature is one of Michael’s most soulful and sultry songs ever written. We often see Michael in his badass ‘I kick ass for a living’ light (beat it), or in his ‘I’m a bad guy’ persona (Thriller, Billie Jean). In his ‘I’m a Pop King’ appearance (black or white) or in his peace-promoting era (Heal the World). But we don’t see as often, his soulful, sultry, and romance-loving side at the forefront. We hope today that ‘Human nature’, reminds you of the many facets of Michael Jackson.

Asa:

In the book of talented Virgos, we also have the phenomenal ‘Asa’, The literal precept for alternative music in Nigeria. Asa was the foundation, the opener of pathways for young Nigerian creatives in music, to dare to be different. From rock, to pop, to R&B, the multi-genre artiste packs every genre like infinity stones but with an African glove. Of course, the Afro-centric queen is nothing short of a perfectionist herself, incredibly dedicated to her craft. She lives and breathes good music but she also lives to do it in the most optimum manner. Since Virgos excel at whatever they do, it’s no surprise that Asa excels tremendously in her field, even with an alternative sound. Her intellect as a person and an artiste is pristine, always so introspective that it bleeds into her songwriting. She’s well known for her challenging satirical lyrics. Whether it’s to the government, the Nigerian people, or pure expression through storytelling, Asa is always capturing our hearts and attention. Since we’re feeling a little dreamy today. It’s a perfect fit to remind ourselves of her good storytelling. The Asa song for today is “Eyo”; capturing the beauty of Nigerian life, a lovely environment, a home of happiness, love, harmony, and peace, and the “something in the song that makes you feel at home”.

Oh, and we’re not done. Just because we love Asa over here, here’s an extra recommendation for you with the song, “YOGA ft Tay Iwar”, for chill vibes at home or anywhere in the world you want to be.

Amy Winehouse:

And in the home of critical thinkers with strong work Ethics, we also find Amy Winehouse. This woman was incredibly passionate about her sound and style and is well known for working herself to the bone, shaping herself until she delivered the best of herself. Though she was often criticized and the press loved to focus on her odd nature and tragic end, Amy truly had such pure energy, an amazing sense of humor, a silly rough charm, and strong distinctive jazz vocals. Today we have placed one of her lovely classics on our playlist; “Valerie”. There’s just something about that jazzy upbeat song, It’s no wonder it has a million covers. Amy’s striking vocals and amazing pitch make you want to grab your makeshift mic and bend your knees to the ground screaming “Valerieeee”. It’s all about snapping and dancing and vibing. It makes you want to shake your hair, your head, your feet and your hands.

Nonso Amadi:

Oh boy do we love a kind, gentle Virgo, and this Afrobeats, Afro-soul, R&B, Alte pop genius musician, Nonso Amadi, never fails to exude those vibes. Nonso Amadi has such a refreshing and tranquil approach to his music. His music style is a garden of exploration and he never shies away from experimenting with new sounds, every single one of them, flowing perfectly and fitting his skin like a velvet glove. For our playlist selection, here’s a Nonso Amadi classic that never gets old; “No Crime”

Zendaya:

Quite a number of us are used to Zendaya’s irresistible talent, charm, wit, and humor but majorly in the acting scene. Yet her success is not limited to acting alone as her talent knows no bounds. She is equally a gorgeous actress, an amazing singer, and a phenomenal dancer. Though she dialed back on her pursuit of music (only appearing seldomly in movie soundtracks and some live performances) Zendaya still had a living, breathing music career, with a total of 1 studio album, 10 singles, 3 promotional singles, 15 music videos, and other album appearances. Such an all-rounder queen! Check out her breakout hit song ‘Replay’.

Virgos are known for always crafting beautiful pieces of art as we’ve seen so far, I mean all that attention to detail has to go somewhere. And all of that is worth celebrating. So thank you for joining us in this edition, we look forward to having you in our next Monthly Music Playlists!!!
