Psssst… Hello there, how are you? What a month isn’t it? A wonderful February for us so far. Are you perhaps done and over with the love fever already? Welllll we’re still stuck in the spirit of love over here and we’re here to juggle that spirit in you.

So tell us, How was your Valentine’s? and what category did you belong to on the 14^th? Were you the hopeless romantic? The one who couldn’t wait for the day to be over?

The “tuh it’s even plastic” crew?

Or were you in the situationship and unclear crew? The lover who got plenty gifts and the lover who couldn’t wait to give and receive gifts? Have I touched all the tables or are there more to discover?

Here’s a thing though, about human nature, Love is something we all…well love. We are all condemned to give love and want love, refuse as we may, there is always someone we care for, someone we cherish above the ordinary and in the spirit of love, we kick off our new series of MONTHLY MUSIC PLAYLISTS.

On Monthly Music playlists,  we make a playlist of songs each month, centered around a particular theme ranging from everything to anything. Join us on our first theme “LOVE”;  catered to celebrate love in the month of love.

My love Mine All Mine:

We’re kicking off the playlist with the infamous Mitski. An Alternative underground artiste who gained a lot of mainstream traction in 2023 with a number of hit songs and a particular one that’s been stuck on our tongues, My Love Mine all Mine . Its beautiful slow drawl, reminds one of a ballroom dance, or sweet slow dances in the kitchen, of burden-releasing hugs . This song, according to Mitski, came out of a deep self-reflection. After observing that everything she had was never truly her own, because everything fades away and eventually becomes nothing,  she came to the realization that the one thing she genuinely had, was her love. It was hers to keep.  This song serves as an expressive gentle reminder of self love, of love, whether we choose to keep it or share it, what we do with our love, peace and energy, is all ours. The song captures the feeling of love like extended arms, being wrapped in a shawl, trapped in the space and time of adoration. We hope this is one of the modern songs that stays a classic for a long time. Ghost in the machine: Sza ft Phoebe Bridgers

For the ones who need a loving…distraction. The ones who have no interest in getting attached  but are looking to feel… something. The ones who want the experience without drama. Yes we see you, not everyone wants to be saddled with all that extra baggage and if you’re looking to be distracted “from all the disaster”, from you, the Grammy award winning, ‘Ghost in the machine’ is just the kind of track for you. This is a perfect mix for equal lovers of Rnb and alternative music.

Looking for something that seals in the feeling of a ride or die kind of love? Reminds you of them, their Love and loyalty towards you, your beautiful pattern going together like a lyric and note. A thoroughly grown, secure kind of love that “loves you like a brother, treats you like a friend and respects you like a lover”. Miguel’s ‘Sure thing’ captures that feeling to perfection.

Intoxycated is that track that is so sick of the toxic and exploitative kind of love, the love that makes you want to drown your feelings in a bottle. Well here’s a chance to seek an outlet. Look what you made me do: Adekunle Gold ft Simi

Our playlist really wouldn’t be complete with our favorite tensioning, powerful music couple, Adekunle Gold and Simi. After part 1 they’ve refused to let us rest and have fired up the tension with part two, gifting us the acoustic version of Look what you made me do, softer, sweeter and even more intense, making the song and its lyrics feel new. They admittedly want to use love to choke us and you know what, we’ll allow it.
